Stichting Jeugdzorg, Jongerencentrum Jarabee Hengelo (NL)
Hengelo is a small, friendly town in the east of the Netherlands, close to the border with Germany.
It's part of the region "Twente" and has 80.000 inhabitants. The town started out as a village of farmers but became a city in 1802.
Nowadays every youngster in Hengelo between 12 and 23 years old can join the various activities that the Juvenile Work offers in Hengelo. We work in community centers in most neighbourhoods in Hengelo. There's also the youth center "RADAR". Here we organise most of our activities. Such as music parties, sport activities, girl activities, and of course our videoproject. The juvenile work is part of “Scala”, a local organization for welfare work.
The video project has been up and running since 1999 as a part of the juvenile work in Hengelo. Youngsters are given the opportunity to learn how to produce short movies on video. These are then reproduced on different mediaforms, such as DVD, or the world wide web. The media productions are meant for public display, educational purposes or as promotional material. The youth centre Radar is the home station of the videoproject. Every Monday evening the youngsters gather here to work on their productions.
For the educational methods new subjects and practises are developed. All of these different methods will be gathered for the EU Mediatrainer project, some appear at the website as "mini-courses". For education in specific knowledge and media competences mediateachers are hired. These people have a lot of practical experience in professional mediaproduction. |
